COVID-19 Virus Update

As-Salaamu-Alaikum Believers,

We pray everyone is safe and healthy during these times. As an update, we will be holding Jumah prayer at the usual time (1:00 PM). We are asking those who are feeling ill or susceptible to illness to stay indoors and avoid public environments, as suggested by the local and federal officials.

A Hadith to keep in mind during these times:

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.

Second Ten Days of Ramadan: Forgiveness

can-we-be-forgiven_724_494_80.jpg

We are in the midst of the second ten days of Ramadan, which is reserved for Allah's (SWT) forgiveness.  During these ten days, we should make dua and sincerely pray for as much forgiveness as we can.  As we know, Allah (SWT) is the Most Merciful and forgives again and again.

Here is a dua that can be said during these ten days:

Allahum-magh-fir-li dhunoobi Ya Rabbal Alameen

Rabbana Fagh-fir-lana dhunoobana wa kaf-fir-‘anna sayyi-aatina wa ta-waf-fana ma-‘al abraar. (Surah Al-Imran:193)

Meaning: Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and remit from us our evil deeds, and make us die in the state of righteousness along with Al-Abrâr (those who are obedient to Allâh and follow strictly His Orders).

First Ten Days of Ramadan: Mercy

nature-02.jpg

Ramadan is broken up into three parts (or Ashras):  the first ten days are for Allah's mercy, the second ten days are for Allah's forgiveness, and the last ten days are for protection from the hell fire.

During the first ten days we should make dua and pray for Allah's mercy on ourselves, our families, friends and communities.  An example of a dua we can recite:

Rab-bigh-fir war-ham wa Anta Khair-ur-Raahimeen. (Surah Al Muminun:118)

Meaning: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of those who show mercy!

Let us all continue to make the best out of this Ramadan, Inshallah.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Dear Believers,

Ramadan is upon us and we hope that everyone enjoys and gains many blessings during this blessed month.  Below, please find all of the information concerning the masjid prayer and iftar schedules, Taraweeh prayers, and more.

  • We encourage all believers to frequent the Masjid to break fast each evening at Maghrib time

  • Community iftars will be offered Fridays and Saturdays starting May 18th.  Please email masjidnumansite@gmail.com or sign-up at the Masjid.

  • Due to the lengthy fasting hours and work schedules the traditional Taraweeh prayers will be offered on weekends. Taraweeh prayers are recommended in congregation and can be also offered at home if not able to make it to Masjid. Remember the Prophet did not make Taraweeh a Fard (obligatory) prayer. Taraweeh prayers can help atone from earlier sins.

  • In general, we should all increase our prayers and reading of the Qu'ran during this month.

  • We also encourage believers to make donations of water, dates and food supplies that can also be used to feed needy at Eid al Fitr

Ramadan Update - Fasting will begin 5/17/18

Assalumu Alaikum Dear Believers,

The Black Moon (New Moon) was reported born at 7:38 a.m. this morning (May 15th.) The viewing of the new moon is not visible in our region at this time. The new moon becomes visible 24-32 hours after it’s birth.  We will have a conference call late tomorrow evening 12 midnight (May 16th) when we anticipate the moon of Ramadan would have already been sighted.

This is in accordance with Qur’an and the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (saw) to begin the month of Ramadan “when the moon is sighted.” If there is no confirmed sighting (if it is obstructed because of clouds, etc.) due to the length of hours already passed, its birth will be confirmation of new moon. Ramadan always starts at night (Laitul Qadr - Night of Power) and the next morning (in this case Thursday, May 17th) will begin the days of Fasting, Inshallah. We will send notices out as well as leave message on Masjid telephone 716-892-1332.

We will update the website with the prayer schedule, iftar schedule, and much more information to help this month be a success for everyone.  Please stay in tuned with the website, and please remember we are looking for everyone to pledge donations towards the $15,000 fundraiser for Masjid repairs and a chair lift for seniors. Our goal is to have collected this amount by the end of Ramadan, Inshallah!

In closing let us be reminded that Allah does not want to implore difficulties upon us and wants us to complete the fast 2:185. May Allah extend to you all, a Blessed Ramadan!

The Last 10 Days of Ramadan

ASA Believers,

We are now in the last ten days of Ramadan, the protection from the Hellfire.  During these last nights, we should push ourselves to get as many blessings as we can, and most importantly, seek out Laylatul Qadr, The Night of Power.  As we know, this is a night that is greater than a thousand months, so we should be especially vigilant and exerting ourselves.  The Prophet (PBUH) said that the Night of Power falls on an odd night during the last ten days of the month.

The Prophet said: “Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.
— (Bukhari and Muslim recorded from Abu Huraira).

There are many things we can do during the last ten days to increase our blessings including increasing our prayers and dua, reading Qu'ran, asking for protection from the Hellfire, giving more charity, and asking Allah (SWT) for the things we want to accomplish.

Second Ten Days of Ramadan: Forgiveness

ASA believers,

We have been blessed to make it to the second ten days of Ramadan, which represent forgiveness Allah (swt).  During this time, we should make dua and continuously ask for forgiveness for our missteps.

We should not allow our excitement, energy and passion for this great ti drop during these middle ten days.

Here is a dua to help along the way:

Rabbana Fagh-fir-lana dhunoobana wa kaf-fir-‘anna sayyi-aatina wa ta-waf-fana ma-‘al abraar.

Meaning: Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and remit from us our evil deeds, and make us die in the state of righteousness along with Al-Abrâr (those who are obedient to Allâh and follow strictly His Orders).
— Surah Al-Imran:193

As we further on this Ramadan journey, we should remember that reading as much as The Qur'an as possible should be one of our goals.  The reading schedule to complete The Qur'an is in the previous post, but we would like to add the verses below that require Sajda after reading them:

  1. Surah Al A'Raf (7) Ayat 206
  2. Surah Al Ra'd (13) Ayat 15
  3. Surah Al Nahl (16) Ayat 50
  4. Surah Bani Israil (17) Ayat 109
  5. Surah Maryum (19) Ayat 58
  6. Surah Al Haj (22) Ayat 18
  7. Surah Al Haj (22) Ayat 77 (Shafi)
  8. Surah Al Farqan (25) Ayat 60
  9. Surah Al Naml (27) Ayat 26
  10. Surah As Sajdah (32) Ayat 15

  13. Surah Al Najam (53) Ayat 62
  14. Surah Inshiqaq (84) Ayat 21
  15. Surah Al Alaq (96) Ayat 19

HOW TO PERFORM SAJDA-E-TILAWAT

Sajda Tilaawat will be performed like a normal Sajda. Wudhu is a condition.

There is no Sajdah Tilaawat when the Aayat of Sajdah is heard on tape.

Face the Qiblah and without raising the hands, recite Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar), going down in the Sajda position. In Sajda, recite Subhaana rabbiyal a'alaa at least 3 times. Thereafter, reciting the Takbeer if you wish to. If you wish, you may arise from the Sajda position into the Tashahhud position. The Sajdah Tilaawat is now complete. There is no need for Salaam.
